The Author
Leo Moura combines his extensive background in computer science with a lifelong passion for the arts. Holding a Master's degree in Computer Science from UFRGS and an Engineering degree from ENSIMAG, Leo has developed a career marked by significant roles, including as a core developer at Alliance, and as a software engineer at Microsoft and Coinbase. His professional expertise is deeply rooted in his interest in mathematics and finite automata, in which he developed undergraduate research under the supervision of Aline Villavicencio.
Parallel to his technical pursuits, Leo has nurtured a dedication to drawing since childhood. This artistic endeavor has seamlessly intertwined with his technological expertise, guiding his unique artistic vision. In his work, Leo explores the relationship between mathematical structures and art, drawing inspiration from the patterns and complexities of John Conway's Game of Life.
In his latest project, Leo is exploring the intersection of maths, crypto technology and the visual arts. His goal is to create a dialogue between those worlds as well as discussing the role of identity in the decentralized world of crypto. A world full of anonymous players, but in which the NFT projects that thrive the most are those related to profile pictures. With Life Collection, Leo plays with the idea that random seed numbers generate a behavior almost life-like and those seeds create a visual identity that’s different but at the same time very rigid in it’sstructure. Are we just highly complex automata’s is there a place to defy the strict rules of consensus that govern blockchain and the metaverse?
In his captivating latest project, Life Collection, Leo Moura delves into the nuanced intersection of mathematics, crypto technology, and visual arts. This endeavor seeks to initiate a profound dialogue among these diverse realms, while also probing the intricate concept of identity within the enigmatic, decentralized landscape of cryptocurrency. In this domain, anonymity prevails, yet intriguingly, it is the NFT projects centered around profile pictures that resonate most profoundly. Life Collection thoughtfully engages with the notion that random seed numbers can spawn behaviors mimicking life itself. These seeds, in Leo's artistic vision, give birth to visual identities that are distinct yet bound by a rigid structure. Through this exploration, Leo poses philosophical inquiries: Are we, in essence, akin to highly complex automata? Is there room to challenge the stringent rules of consensus that underpin the blockchain and the metaverse? This project not only reflects Leo's technical acumen and artistic sensibility but also his ability to transcend conventional boundaries, inviting viewers into a world where art, technology, and identity converge in a mesmerizing dance.
